Is there a vacuum line problem?
I was driving on the interstate..

When I floored the gas to accelerate past a car, the engine suddenly lost power but eventually regained some.

On the way home I did the same thing thinking that maybe it was just bad gas. But this time I had to pull over to the side of the road and idle to the nearest exit.

No matter how far I pushed the pedal to the floor it would not accelerate.

I removed the engine cover to check the cable and saw that it was intact. I could manually move the throttle and nothing happened.

Only after removing the air hose from the intake and holding my hand over it did the engine eventually begin to idle and run at the correct speed.

I was able to drive it home then.

It sounds like a clogged vacuum line or defective mass air flow duct or sensor.
